早几个星期，我的手提电脑失声，找不到原因。Volume 开了，Device Manager 里的sound, audio and game controller 也检查了，work properly。对于电脑，我也不是太精通，就决定format它。
听说window vista有一个分开了的drive特别储存电脑基本软体作recovery用途。只需按一个button就可以让整部电脑回到最基本状态。（所以无论如何，这个drive是万万不可format的）我让电脑回到原点，那失去的声音就回来啦~ （直线想法）
可是，要按那个键？何时要按？没有人告诉过我这些呢…发挥“问”的精神。朋友们在不同的专业领域，常常会接到我的各种疑问（当然不是无聊的提问~）然后实行远距离教学。有人没空回答，那没关系，反正自己尽了努力，没有答案错不在于我。有人则会尽力帮忙，对于知道答案者是举手之劳；对于不知答案的人还会热心的帮我找答案，给我alternative measures。你们真得很好！谢谢！
回到我的故事….于是，我问一些可能知道的人。
“I don’t know wor…I am using window 98…”
“我用XP, Vista不好用…”
“Vista..? XP…? O…如此这般…如此这般…因为呵，Vista 和XP不同，你要downgrade的话就要….”
“Downgrade? 不是，不是。我要Format vista”
“Format vista啊？不懂咧，没玩过…”
有那么难吗？
后来的后来，问到了一个电脑店的职员。得到一个简单的答案“按F11”。
恍然大悟！“Press F11 for Emergency Recovery” 这句子每次开机时都会出现在一片黑暗的荧幕里，维持三秒后消失，然后进入蓝色视窗荧幕。我压根没有想到它。真是笨蛋！就只是在开机时，那句子出现的当儿按下 F11键。然后跟着接下来出现的指示就可以了。
两个小时后，听到那“嘀”一声的开机声音（之前连开机的声音都没有呢），啊~~~久违的声音，你回来啦！
为什么会失声，到现在还搞不懂。Anyway, 我的电脑回到原点，重新出发！

如果我没猜错，你的电脑应该是HP机。你说的F11复原键，是一些名厂（如HP）预设的复原键，但并不关VISTA的事。
Never used Vista, but I also suspect what Anderson say is correct.
When you boot up the PC, the program that is running is BIOS (Basic Input Output System). At this time you see black screen with white text. After that Windows take over. This is the time you see graphics. From what you describe, you press the F11 key before Windows start up.
Anyway, how do you think Vista compared to XP?
For me, I was using it since 18 months ago. Many problem and easy to crash, but already use to it...

Ya lo, ya lo...silent world quite boring, especially when i 兴致勃勃 want to watch movie on pc.
But i think no sound only at least better than no image la~ :)

now dont knw is vista's or computer itself. As IT guy anderson n khengsiong commented that is related to computer's itself, not window wor...
Dun need 失敬失敬, just a normal job... i am Software Programmer.
